Postnatal & Lactation

Specialist Postnatal & Lactation Care

Evolve Postnatal Clinic makes specialist care after birth accessible, with bulk billed postnatal appointments during the first six weeks. Care includes your recovery and emotional wellbeing, your baby’s wellbeing, feeding and guidance through the transition into motherhood. You can self-refer and do not need a GP referral.

Private lactation consultations provide longer appointments for detailed feeding assessment at any stage. Complete Postnatal Care offers personalised, planned care for you and your baby throughout the first six weeks.

Postnatal & Lactation Services

Postnatal Appointments

Focused, accessible care for you and your baby during the first six weeks after birth.

You can self-refer for an in-person or Telehealth postnatal appointment and do not need a referral from your GP or hospital.

Appointments are centred on your main concerns and may include support with your physical recovery, postnatal health and emotional wellbeing, as well as your baby’s weight, growth and general newborn care.

Breastfeeding, bottle feeding and mixed feeding support are also available, together with practical guidance, clinical assessment and referral when required.

Medicare eligible appointments are bulk billed during the first six weeks after birth. You will be asked to complete an assignment of benefit following your appointment.

If you do not have Medicare or are not eligible for bulk billing, private appointments are available. Please contact the clinic before booking so that we can advise you of the applicable fee.

For concerns requiring a more detailed feeding assessment or additional time, a longer private lactation consultation may be more appropriate.

Private Lactation Consultations

Longer, specialist appointments for feeding concerns requiring a more detailed assessment.

Private lactation consultations are available at any stage of your breastfeeding or infant feeding journey. They are suited to women and families experiencing specific, complex or ongoing concerns that need more time than a focused postnatal appointment.

Appointments may address painful feeding, nipple or breast concerns, latch difficulties, breast refusal, low milk supply, concerns about milk transfer, your baby’s weight gain or feeding effectiveness.

Support is also available for pumping and expressing, returning to work, mixed feeding, supplementation, bottle feeding and ongoing feeding concerns that have not resolved. Oral function can be assessed where indicated, with referral to an appropriate practitioner when required.

Each consultation includes a detailed feeding assessment, individualised guidance and a practical plan based on the needs of you and your baby. There is also time to work through conflicting advice, rebuild confidence and make informed decisions about feeding.

Your consultation includes a detailed feeding assessment, oral function assessment where indicated, individualised guidance, appropriate referrals and a practical plan based on the needs of you and your baby.

Fee and Medicare rebate

Consultation fee: $180

Medicare rebate for eligible women with a baby under six weeks: approximately $111

Estimated out of pocket cost after rebate: $69

The full consultation fee is paid at the appointment. You will then need to submit your claim to Medicare.

For appointments when your baby is older than six weeks, or if you are not eligible for a Medicare rebate, the full private consultation fee applies.

Complete Postnatal Care

Planned care and priority appointment scheduling from birth through to six weeks.

Complete postnatal care is available for women who would like continuity and planned support throughout the early postnatal period, rather than arranging individual appointments as concerns arise.

Care is planned around the individual needs of you and your baby throughout the first six weeks following birth. It may include priority appointment scheduling, subject to availability, together with regular assessment of your postnatal health, physical recovery and emotional wellbeing.

Appointments may also include baby weight and growth assessment, newborn care, breastfeeding and infant feeding support, ongoing guidance as your needs change, and referral to other health professionals when appropriate.

Your care will be planned around the needs of you and your baby throughout the first six weeks following birth.

Availability for complete postnatal care is limited.

Please contact the clinic during pregnancy or soon after birth to discuss package availability, inclusions and fees.
