The Private Practice Pathway
Completing your endorsement is a significant achievement, but for many midwives it raises a new set of questions.
How do I establish myself in private practice?
How do I create a sustainable and rewarding way of working?
How do I navigate the practical, financial and professional realities of working independently?
The Private Practice Pathway has been created to bridge the gap between endorsement and independent practice.
While Medicare, insurance, business structures and referral pathways are important, they are rarely the only barriers.
Many midwives find themselves navigating self doubt, financial uncertainty, professional identity shifts and the challenge of creating a practice that feels both sustainable and aligned.
Combining real world experience as a private midwife, business owner and mentor, this mentorship explores both the practical and professional foundations of independent practice.
Because knowing what to do and having the confidence to do it are often two very different things.
What We Explore Together
The Private Practice Pathway explores both the practical and professional realities of establishing independent practice.
Practical discussions may include business structures, Medicare and provider numbers, insurance requirements, referral pathways, financial considerations, professional relationships and the development of sustainable models of care.
Alongside these practical foundations, we also explore the less visible challenges that often prevent midwives from taking action. These may include self doubt, financial uncertainty, confidence, professional identity, decision making and the transition from employee to independent practitioner.
Grounded in real world experience rather than theory alone, the mentorship creates space for both practical learning and professional reflection.
The aim is not to create identical practices, but to support each midwife in developing a model of practice that aligns with their own values, strengths and vision for the future.
Who This Is For?
The Private Practice Pathway has been designed for endorsed midwives who are exploring, establishing or growing independent practice.
Some participants may be taking their first steps beyond the hospital system. Others may already have elements of private practice in place but are seeking greater clarity, direction or confidence.
Whether you are navigating business decisions, professional identity shifts, financial uncertainty or simply wondering what comes next, the mentorship provides a structured environment for learning, reflection and professional growth.
Participants do not need to have a fully formed business idea before joining. Curiosity, commitment and a willingness to explore new possibilities are often enough to begin.
The Mentorship
The Private Practice Pathway is delivered in a small group format designed to combine practical learning, professional discussion and real world insight.
Participants have access to live online sessions, practical resources and the opportunity to learn alongside other midwives navigating similar questions and challenges.
The mentorship has been intentionally designed to provide both structure and flexibility, recognising that every participant will bring different goals, experiences and aspirations into the room.
Places are limited to maintain meaningful discussion, individual reflection and professional connection.
